Our Purpose &
Vision
Our purpose is to mobilize communities and ignite movements on the strengths of Black people boldly advocating for equity and a just future for Black children and families.
Our
Values
-
Equity as a process -
Justice as a goal -
Afrofuturism as a guide
Afrofuturism holds that Black identity, agency and freedom can be achieved and envisions liberated futures for Black communities. It states that “the imagination is the most powerful tool of a subjugated people.” We use Afrofuturism as our guide to build a world based in the Black imagination. Our work is the translation of Black imagination into a tangible destiny for Black children and families.
Afrofuturism informs our collective vision and strategic efforts, such as our eight Essential Outcomes. We are insistent on these outcomes because they lay the foundation for the future we envision for Black children and families.
Our efforts in policy, research, and activism emerge from our commitment to Afrofuturism and the required shifts in the current social and economic systems necessary to achieve these outcomes.
